October 2006

  • Time for another one of my exquisite gossip columns! As October draws to an end, autumn is already upon us and winter draws close. Remember, it is never too early to send me an email asking what I want for Christmas! (or what's on Vaire's wishlist!) There have been several changes to Mume over the past month so I might as well get cracking!

  • The New Years Eve party in Scotland is drawing closer and most of us have just booked our Ceilidh in the Gardens ticket. Not really sure what it’s all about but Ria promised dancing and if there’s dancing there’s alcohol so it all sounds jolly good to me. Ares is going to be there as well, still plenty of time to book tickets!

  • Just a few days ago a thread was opened talking about the possibility of a Mume Meeting in February. Winter something Livigno Italy 2007 is the threads name (great place for skiing!) And already Shake, Diamonium and I think Fragir and Fero are going. What’s better than going skiing all day, laughing at your fellow mumers when they fall and they sitting in front of a warm fire getting wasted? (Rumours are adrift that Stolb is gathering his crew and will be seen learning how to ski on the children’s slope).

  • Already there is a thread debating about where the next annual summer mume
meeting should be held but I think everyone seems to be gearing towards Estonia. Check the Mume meeting 2007 in Estonia? Thread for details but it’s still early days yet.

  • As I mentioned before, there have been plenty of changes to Mume over the past months and here are some of the more important parts:

  • Legend Homes have been abused for PK situations for some time and the Gods
felt it was time to change this so from now on legend homes will not longer be allowed to be close to city gates, or have a locked exit out of them (although latches seem to be ok). There have already been several discussions about this change, if you missed them, check the News 2220 : Legendhome locations (D... thread.

    • There has been a slight change to the butchering and cooking meat setup. When you butcher or cook some meat, you will be able to recognize what animal it came from. Cute change but still waiting for Squirrel meat!
    • Both Iron Rings and the Strength spell have been improved. The iron rings were behaving a bit strangely after the armour change but that seems to have been fixed and the strength spell has been improved
when cast on top of the effect of an older spell.

    • There has been a somewhat big change in the mechanism that loads clothes, weapons and other equipment on mobiles (mobs). It will take a few weeks for this to have effect but some mobiles will start to show more variety in their clothing. If this means mobs will be wearing squirrel
slippers, I am all for it. (And fur hats!)
    • You can now put things on tables and similar. They work pretty much like
regular containers, except that what’s on them will be shown with “look”. You will still need to “get <squirrel> table” to be able to do anything with the <squirrel>! Further work is needed on this but it should be working well now.
    • One of the most significant changes of the past month was the change to melee fighting. Naturally this has been a highly debated subject so go to the Message 2228 : Changes in melee fig... (Babanovac) thread to make sure you are fully aware of all the details.
    • One of the latest changes (only 3 days ago) has been that of Zaugurz
      draughts. The
Zaugurz draughts are now a little bit less effective, and their side effects are a little bit more painful. Be careful when quaffing!
    • Timodeus was raised to Ms (Maia Shaper)

    • Amidst spreading terror around the whities of Arda (and squirrels) I managed to get a few minutes alone with Secret to talk about random stuff! (and yes, we did approach the squirrel topic)

You just recently started playing troll again after sometime away right? How does it feel to be back? Anything particular that has changed?

Well what first appeared to me is that there is barely any changes, besides that apparently most powerpukes and orcs have quitted or are inactive, so I can travel to more places withoutgetting 12 up my butt. But eq is same, system is same, areas is same (besides fangorn but I
playtested it before it got OPENED) Mentality of players is same, after 3 years not much change :) I only had to refresh mysecret door knowledge. However it felt really cool to be back and see a ton of other oldies log on though (socrates, crol, roadkill and such). So, overall, the only big change I saw is many oldies (who are rusty) and more newbie-ish playerbase. I have gotten quite some kills in places I would never ever get a kill 3 years ago: P
    • Being one of the most well known and highest-level trolls,
any quick suggestions that you can give younger troll players?
    • Yes, my first advice is: the troll race is a special species with its own
written and unwritten rules, its own social status and its own way of pking and xping. In my opinion there is three different trolls: the trackless troll with defence, the berserker hitter and the track troll. Make up your mind before you level up your troll because the playstyle
is very different. As troll, you need to know which areas are dark and which are light, which is the most important. If you have experience as puke/orc/bn then the troll race is pretty easy, BESIDES in pk situations with sunlight and other things. Just going berserk works if you don’t care to die however if you don’t just want to die like a piece of meat,
trolls take time to master :)' Real newbie players best make an unarmed troll and learn where to get boots and fgc and go play around.
    • Last question and a slightly random, any mob that you hate and why?
    • The first mobs that come to mind are huge black bear and hardons.
Huge black bear cuz it makes ingrove safe (a fun mob to kill though with
nice load for trolls) and hardons cuz they are just annoying. I don’t really hate mobs: P Some old trolls and me had a sport to get as much maxed mobs as possible, I have 105 255, 99% mobs. Lothar me cele and skojardu were racing each other. Lothar has maxed squirrel, I still need to max that, only 168, 99%, A squirrel AHA! squirrels ftw!
    • As some of you might have already noticed, there is a War of gigantic
proportion being fought on Elvenrunes and Mume. The savage Vikings (.se) against the terrifying Dingoes (.au). Words have been said, nasty words in fact and the rest of the world (all other players) was called in as a peacekeeping force. It looks like things are about to turn even nastier with pRuria developing a new and unique way of killing darkies
(all you gotto do is stand still and press the bash key) and pDraaz
threatening to cut heads although the only head that seems to be cut is his own… Time and time again…
I don’t know when it will end but all I can say is that it’ll probably get
worse before it gets better! Stay safe everyone!

    • Time to update our level list!
    • Staub has continued his march towards level 100 and has jumped up to level 94 now.
    • Fayth has continued her slaying of fluffy teddy bears and has reached level 61.
    • Rumours are about that Woland could have reached the daunting heights of level 97 but this has yet to be confirmed.
    • Nazghul has managed to add another level to his character and is now level 94. Secret has turned to level 72, and although there are rumours that Tan may be the highest-level troll, this has not yet been confirmed,
as he has been unwilling to discuss the matter. Thus Secret is still
officially thehighest-level troll. And Reno… Well… if anyone has any information on the highest-level hobbit, please get in touch with me!
    • Yes… you’re dreading this day aren’t you? Another year, another wrinkle.
    • Birthday list - 19. October - Manse 26. October - Sardaukar and Roadkil, 27. October - Naksur 31. October - Thror, 3. November - Burb, 4. November - Dur and Forin
    • Well that’s it from me for this month. And remember! Always overkill! Safety in numbers!
